If you read the 3 star product review, you might think twice. This individual actually sounds convincing. That is unless you've done your homework. I'd like to clarify a few incorrect points that have been made.
- Fast switching phosphors are used in all Full-HD VIERA models for 2011. By reformulating the phosphor materials, afterglow has been minimized and luminous efficiency has been increased. This enables crisp, clear rendering of motion images. A level of efficiency that exceeds our 2010 panels also increases picture quality while lowering power consumption.

Only the top of the line 2010 3D models ($2K) had the fast switching phospors. The neoplasma is literally a promotional "tag". The 2011 3D TV's have a different rib structure in the panel as needed for the seperation of 3D images, specific cross talk cancellation processors to minimize 3D double images, and a specific louvered filter (infinite black) to help keep glare down while keeping the two 3d images... The picture quality of this TV is simply excellent. Compared it with more expensive Panasonic "Infinite Black" G model and it's impossible to see the difference in real video content. You need to be in total darkness and have very high quality, low noise signal with large swatches of black and put them side to side to notice a slightly darker black in G models. Of course, just watching TV you will never think I wish blacks were deeper.
I've watched HD programs over the air, from blu-ray, Netflix from Roku, and from PC over HDMI. All modes 480/720/1080 progressive and interlaced displayed perfectly, and TV did a good job upscaling lower resolution to native 1080. No problems with motion, no blurring, no color fading or runoffs. TV does have a slightly lower moving picture resolution 900 lines (vs 1080 lines in top models), but it's quite impossible to notice that without measurements. So sports viewers will be satisfied. Putting together the base was fairly straightforward for me. At no point did I feel that I had to overtighten the screws in order to keep things from wobbling. The one glitch is that (in English, French, and Spanish) the instructions for assembling the base have the labels for the front and the rear switched, so that the pedestal is alleged to be closer to the front of the base than the rear, contrary to what published photos of the assembled product indicate. I don't know if this mislabeling is what has given people problems with the base, or if Samsung used to ship worse-fitting hardware than it does now. In any case, I'm glad I didn't let the complaints about the base hold me back from purchasing this item.

I've owned this set for less than 24 hours, but perhaps some initial impressions will be helpful to other shoppers:

Cons:
1) As noted in other reviews attaching the stand to the television is challenging and will require much more force than you would believe necessary.
2) Owners manual is not very thorough nor are instructions very clear
3) Attaching the securing strap(not included) on the back of the televsion to your stand involves creativity & parts of your choosing, as there are no instruction.

Pros:
1) Excellent video quality for 720P/60Hz
2) Attractive / aesthetically pleasing appearance
3) Nice menu layout and features

For anyone experiencing problems with the picture quality this television has a built in picture & audio test. To implement the test(s) you will need

Coming from an LNT4061, LNT4069, and, most recently, an LN40A650, I'd happy to say that this TV has yet to disappoint. The Samsung quality is all there and it feels considerably evolved from the previous generations I've owned. I'm using this as an office monitor and television - for both occasions, it's a terrific set. The colors are vivid, the sound is crisp, and I have yet to experience any issues with it. I'd also note that this television, while considered the entry level for 2011, is slightly thinner and substantially lighter than other 32" models within the Samsung product lineup and other companies' models within the same price range. There ARE thinner and lighter 32" TV's, but you'll spend an additional $150+ just for the size difference. This was a deciding factor in my case, since I wanted an easily wall-mounted TV without breaking the bank. This review is a little long winded. Skip to the bottom for just the pros and cons. Or, keep reading to waste 10 minutes of your life.

Over the last 5 years, I have been using a 58" Panasonic Plasma TV. Not a bad TV, but not the greatest either. It was only 1080i, it got hot pretty fast (which made the room hot and the air condition kick on too often), and the dimensions were weird (I looked at entertainment centers that should fit a 60" TV, but the TV still wouldn't fit.). I felt an upgrade was in order.

I'll have to admit, shopping for a TV was pretty fun. A lot of work though. The research was overwhelming at times. Websites upon websites, magazines, books, different people's inputs, salesmen trying to sell you different things depending on which store you went to, etc. I narrowed it down to one of many Sony HDTVs or a Samsung C or D series. I spent several months researching HDTV's and finally landed on this model (Samsung LN40D630). I read a lot of the forums online (Cnet.com) about this particular unit, and I had several concerns that wound up being unfounded. I think the best way to approach this review is to do it by some of the major features, so here goes:

AutoMotion Plus (AMP):
I was initially concerned about the AutoMotion Plus feature. Many forum posts complained about it. I was afraid it would be too smooth (i.e too much "soap opera effect"). My concerns were unfounded. It's easy to turn off this feature and it is easy to customize. I love that it is customizable by SOURCE (meaning the settings for your cable may be different for your DVD or BluRay player and the TV will save them as such). I like it very much for fast-motion (such as hockey games) and use the "clear setting" for just about everything else. I hesitate calling this a 'dumb' tv, but that seems to be the option given the moniker Smart TV that is applied to so many higher end products these days.

Maybe the LN46D630 isn't as much dumb as it is ignorant. Which isn't a bad thing. Indeed, that's why I bought it. More on that in a bit.

Before I get to saying what I like about it, let me respond to some of the negative comments I've read. I can't answer for their experiences, but I can share my own. The picture quality is quite good. I don't have any issues with light leaking or other problems. It is a very consistent image that allows for a great variety of adjustments. If you look in the discussion under the 40 inch version of this model, you can find some added pointers about adjustment. I also got the Disney WOW! dvd which helps for much more precise adjustment.

I purchased this TV to replace a 2006 LG plasma that went out of commission. It was going to cost $300-350 to fix it so why not spend a little extra for a brand new TV... Overall extremely happy with the TV, it was a very good value for the price.

1) Picture quality - of course compared to the old LG plasma, the picture quality of fantastic. Rich colors, very little glare on the screen, pretty good viewing angle. I looked at this and several other Samsung models at a local electronics store, and I honestly could not tell much difference between this model and some of the higher-end models in terms of just the picture. I was specifically interested in the D550, which is about $100 cheaper since it is 60 Hz, but the D630 did have a small but noticeable improvement in fine details especially with moving objects. This TV hooked up to my PC's HDMI port without problems, and produces a crystal-clear, sharp picture. For people complaining about 'halos' around screen fonts etc., turn down the 'sharpness' setting in the picture settings. If you have overscan issues and the edges of the screen appear cut off, switch to 'HDMI2' mode in the settings and your screen will display properly.

Wanted, if possible, to get a display device to be both a HD television and a great monitor. This would satisfy the want to have both in a small study. I am an avid photographer using very high resolutions with high end Nikon cameras. Also do HD video (1080p & AVCHD) as well. Needed to get a display to handle editing for both. Definitely wanted a monitor with an IPS panel to assist with very good color, better viewing angles, etc. Looked at the LG's (hit or miss IPS panel in some of the 32"), Samsung's (not an ISP panel), etc., as well. Went to several local AV stores in the local area and was able to see many of the models I was interested in. Hands down this Panasonic was the standout of the 32 inchers! Made the purchase several days later and connected everything up yesterday. All connections were as simple as could be. On HDMI1, I connected the Comcast HD cable box. This tv is awesome!! ..I waited for the new "alpha panel" ( as stated by cnet and is used on higher end tvs) rather than panasonics old lcd panel; and it is worth the wait!! The colors are NOT washed out as one reviewer stated and are very good..The screen is a BIT slightly draker but that brings out the color better in my opinion ... They even improved on the angle viewing so its not faded looking from the sides...My friend brought one to. I think the last reviewer got a bad one.. There are good reviews on this unit from cnet and best buy and even the first person on this page said so minus pc hookup thou...Way to go panasonic!!!

This is a marvelous TV with a fantastic picture and some of the deepest blacks and best contrast of any LCD television on the market. It has an abundance of features and I have gotten addicted to the ability to browse the web on it. I thought the remote would be too much with all the buttons and the qwerty keyboard, but I was wrong. It is well laid out with the top section set up to control your most often adjusted features and the bottom set up for internet browsing. I found two flaws that may or may not bother people. The controls for adjusting the screen aspect ratio are a few layers deep in the menu system. That can be a pain if you are changing around from standard definition to high definition a lot. More significantly, the off-axis viewing is awful. If you are sitting anywhere near the sweet spot, say an angle of 45 degrees off center, the picture is excellent. just purchased the tv this past weekend. based on the two previous reviews, we were a bit hesitant to purchase. however, we tend to be early adopters and i've been looking for a reason to sign up for google tv.

the tv really is about 2 components: 1) tv and 2) software. i will call them out separately.

the tv is what you expect from sony. solid, designed beautifully, solid metal stand. picture quality is excellent. expected number of inputs. you can't really complain about the tv. we had a samsung tv that had a cheap tuner and wouldn't pick up all the unscrambled digital channels but this tv did. we own other sony's and knew they had a solid tuner built in. we would never buy a samsung again due to the cheap tuner. it's a moot point if you have a cable box, but not everyone wants an additional box.

the software. first off, the sony typical UI software is ok. even with our 52 inch and bravia xbr, the UI isn't anything to brag about. though the UI... Read more

I purchased this for my main TV in the living room to replace a 4 year old Visio LCD TV. I liked having the TV with easy access to the web and free movies. The remote with the full Qwerty Key pad is nice and gives you control to browse the web and enter text. To use the Google TV you must have a Gmail account this is part of the startup setup. It's easiest if you already have an account or set this up from a regular PC first. You'll also need an account with online movie sites to rent online movies. You can view trailers for many movies but as for free movies, other than YouTube there arn't any. Using the remote takes some practice. It takes two hands for many commands. The Google TV menus give you many shortcuts to find TV Channels and related online content, My Channels, Bookmark channels of sites, Movie serices. I bought this tv from my local Wal-Mart at college. I had a 19 inch in my dorm room before that was a combination dell monitor/tv. I wanted to use that one as a dedicated dual monitor for my laptop, so I looked at new tvs. I wanted something with full 1080p to use with my blu ray player and the digital channels I get at school. I liked this vizio for the price and for the features. It has enough inputs for my needs, I use my dvd player with composite (the component out on my dvd player doesn't work), wii with component, and I have an hdmi cable to hook up my laptop to it (my laptop is my blu ray player). The picture quality is excellent on high def channels and pretty darn good on standard def channels.

The biggest issues I've had with it so far is that the remote isn't super responsive. I have to press the buttons pretty hard to get the volume/channels to change. The sound gets plenty loud enough, but it increments from 1 to 100, so you have to change the... Read more

I purchased this tv to bring with me to college, and I must say that I am extremely happy with this purchase! The screen is pretty vibrant and beautiful. The TV itself is aesthetically pleasing as well, being very stylish with the bottom speakers. It's also so incredibly thin!

The TV: 22in LED LCD HDTV, for $200 had me sold! There is great value with this television. I use it as a second monitor via HDMI cables, play computer games with it, and have plugged console games into it as well, and everything looks as crisp and nice as other TVs.

The volume, channel, etc buttons are on the right side of the tv, and they work well and are unintrusive.

However, I admit that the speakers are sub-par to other televisions. Although you shouldn't expect bose quality sound performance, the quality of the speakers are comparable to decent laptop speakers, but louder of course. However, this could easily be remedied by plugging in a cheap $20 pair... Read more

Just picked up one of these new VIZIO's and I really like it! The 1080p picture is crisp, and the sound is great. I tried another 32 Inch VIZIO and hated it, plus it threw out a ton of heat. This tiny VIZIO is razor thin, yet provides a full bright picture and does not get hot. It hits 125 degrees out here, and I just fried my old Dell. Just as well, it got red hot, wasn't 1080p, but swiveled and adjusted. I resent these newer cheaper TV's don't offer this feature. The optimum viewing angle for me is off a little, however the previous Phillips 22 Inch HDTV I just returned turned into a negative if you weren't sitting directly in front of it. 200 glowing reviews here so I bought it and thought it looked worse than a 70's TV. Thank you Amazon for your excellent free 30 day return policy too.
